Hiring a Migrant Domestic Worker Under the New Decree

On 27 August 2017 The Informal Labor Protection Division, Department of Labor Protection and Welfare and the Foundation for Labour and Employment Promotion organized a seminar on ” Hiring a Migrant Domestic Worker Under the New Decree ” to exchange and gather recommendations. Participants included 30 migrant domestic workers, civil society organizations, and employers. Mr. Kanchit Manowarangkul, Director, Informal Labor Protection Division, the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare informed and answer questions about the Ministerial Regulation No. 14. The Ministerial Regulation protects domestic workers, prevents the use of child labor in domestic work, ensures domestic workers have an off-day and the traditional holidays. Moreover, Mr. Chamnong Songkaorop, the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, the Department of Employment explained the steps and answers questions on hiring migrant domestic workers. For those who do not have any documents, they are currently in the process of proving the employee-employer status and the issuance of a certificate of identification to employees. Employees who have documents but their employers and job category are not up to date are urgently required to resolve the issue by December 2017. Many employers and employees asked questions about the process and raised concerns on related issues.
