ASEAN recognizes “Domestic Workers” as “Workers”
From the 10th ASEAN Migrant Workers Meeting on 25-26 October 2017 in Manila, Philippines, it was concluded that there shall be the guideline to achieve decent work for domestic workers in ASEAN Towards Achieving Decent Work for Domestic Workers in ASEAN.” The meeting agreed to recognize that “Domestic Workers ” are “Workers ” and considered the guidelines on labor and social welfare rights safeguard to domestic workers. Additionally, domestic workers need professional skills development. Migrant domestic workers need pre-departure training to earn skills and information necessary for working in other countries. Also, employers should have training before employing migrant domestic workers.
